The Rise of Chief AI Officers in Big Pharma

This month, Eli Lilly announced the appointment of its first Chief AI Officer (CAIO) — Thomas Fuchs. There is a growing trend in the hiring of CAIOs in Big Pharma. Pfizer appointed their CAIO — Berta Rodriguez-Hervas — back in August. Merck appointed Walid Mehanna as their Chief Data & AI Officer back in 2023. It will not be a surprise if other Pharma companies follow suit to appoint CAIOs.
