How to Spent a Day in Banjul — The Gambia’s Capital City

The Gambian capital — Banjul is not like it was during it’s heyday. There are still gems to explore and you can pretty much have the place to yourself — it’s not crowded for an tourist destination.

Start off the day at Arch 22. The second floor has great views of the city.

Then take the tree lined Independence Drive where you can take in the sights and sounds of Banjul. You will pass Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital, The National Museum, July 22 Square, and many other attractions.

Head to Nelson Mandela Street via Rene Blain Street. There are a mix of corporate offices and colonial buildings to take in on this street. There are restaurants in this area for a quick lunch.

To cap off the day, you can either head right on Liberation Avenue toward the Wharf, were you will find fish mongers and take in the Atlantic Ocean and mouth of the River Gambia.
